Safe Passage campaigner Judith Williams has described the warm welcome given to the Ukrainian family she hosts.
She also described the many Dorset initiatives to support refugees, including by the International Care Network, based in Bournemouth. These include English language classes, social clubs and housing.
But she warned that negative attitudes towards refugees are coloured by the hostile rhetoric coming from the government.
“If you talk about an invasion, if you talk about a swarm, people start to see these people as an enemy. This is totally wrong. They are not,” she said.
She pointed out that many Ukrainians have already have jobs, and are contributing to the economy and their local communities.
