All 39 asylum seekers have been removed from the Bibby Stockholm after the Health Security Agency discovered legionella in the water.

The harmful bacteria can cause legionnaires’ disease, a potentially fatal lung infection.

Robert Jenrick, the immigration minister, has described the barge as “perfectly decent Accommodation”, although the Fire Brigades Union has warned that is is a “death trap”.

Meanwhile, the Mayor of Portland, Carolyn Parkes, has launched crowd -funding appeal to finance a legal challenge to the Home Office’s decision to site the barge at Portland. She believes the proper planning procedures have not been followed. Ms Parkes has engaged Deighton Pierce Glynn, one of the leading human rights firms in the UK.
