Alf Dubs, the Labour peer and former child refugee, has called for the creation of  a resettlement scheme for Palestinians with family connections to the UK and  those with medical issues.

He said it could be based on the initiatives already in place for Ukrainians and Afghans. Britain should coordinate with other European countries to provide sanctuary, thus allowing people to leave Gaza via the Rafah crossing, as Egypt did not want Sinai to be overwhelmed with Palestinian refugees.

Lord Dubs also spoke about the devastating impact of the Hamas attack on the UK’s Jewish community.
